Our President and CEO
Rhonda M. Moorman, MD, JD
About Dr. Moorman
Rhonda Moorman was born and raised in rural South Georgia. She is a physician and attorney, and currently practices both disciplines in her home state of Georgia.
Dr. Moorman graduated summa cum laude and first in her class from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. She next graduated from the Harvard Law School, where she was a classmate of former United States President Barack Obama. Following her graduation from Harvard and a summer spent practicing law in London, Dr. Moorman completed a two-year federal judicial clerkship. She then accepted a position as a health care employment rights litigator with the Atlanta law firm of King & Spalding.
While at King & Spalding, Dr. Moorman specialized in the defense of physicians and other health care providers accused of wrongdoing in the workplace. In the process, she came to recognize the close connection between law and medicine. She also had a front row seat to the systematic unfair employment practices to which physicians were increasingly being subjected.
With this realization in mind, Dr. Moorman decided to return to medical school, and in the process joined the fourth generation of physicians in her family.
Dr. Moorman received her M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia. She received residency training in internal medicine and radiation oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, and family medicine at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
In the years since, Dr. Moorman has spent her medical career providing emergency and hospitalist care in some of South Georgia's most rural health care settings.
At the same time, Dr. Moorman has spent her legal career representing physicians accused of malpractice or other professional wrongdoing. She also advises physicians on a wide range of employment issues. Finally, she conducts seminars and training sessions for physicians seeking to learn about the law and their legal rights.
About MedLaw and Our Mission
Almost two decades ago, Dr. Moorman began to sense a change in medicine. With time, she became increasingly aware that physicians were routinely being targeted for unfair review and formal discipline up to and including termination of employment, loss of medical licensure, and even criminal prosecution. Too often, the accusation was unfounded, the process was unfair, and the punishment was too severe. This was neither the medicine nor the law that she knew. Something was going on.
With that realization, MedLaw was born.
Throughout the following years, the situation for physicians went from bad to worse. Needless to say, MedLaw and Dr. Moorman have been very busy.
MedLaw is now almost twenty years old. Due in large part to Dr. Moorman's dual expertise in medicine and law, as well as her aggressive, in the trenches fighter mentality, MedLaw to date has enjoyed unprecedented success representing physicians accused of wrongdoing. In fact, after almost two decades in existence, MedLaw boasts a 100% success rate defending those physicians.
Dr. Moorman is a "doctor's lawyer" in every sense. She knows medicine, because she practices it every day. At the same time, she knows the law. This makes her uniquely qualified to represent physicians accused of misconduct in virtually any setting. Once a rare occurrence, unfortunately, that now happens daily to good physicians around the country.
Dr. Moorman is on a personal mission to serve and protect her fellow physicians who are unfairly targeted, harshly punished, and left without recourse. Dr. Moorman is their recourse, and it is a role that she finds infinitely rewarding. After all, defending those who have been wronged, like caring for those who are sick or injured, is simply the right thing to do.
That is MedLaw's mission, and Dr. Moorman's personal quest.
